Marie Antoinette Inspired Editorial at Woods Retreat
There are some shoots that feel less like creating photographs and more like stepping into another world for a few hours. This Marie Antoinette–inspired editorial was exactly that — romantic, feminine, textured, and filled with layers of delicate detail that made every frame feel almost painterly.

The entire vision for this shoot was heavily inspired by the atmosphere and architecture of The Woods Retreat Minnesota. Nestled in the woods with its European-inspired charm, weathered textures, countryside feeling, natural surroundings, and quiet romantic atmosphere, the venue immediately reminded me of the Hameau de la Reine — the small countryside village created for Marie Antoinette where she could briefly escape the formality of Versailles.

Inspired by Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, I imagined an alternative story: what if Marie Antoinette had the opportunity to have an intimate wedding ceremony in the countryside instead of a grand royal celebration inside Versailles?

That idea shaped the entire atmosphere of the shoot. There is still elegance, romance, and a sense of luxury woven throughout every detail, but paired with something softer, quieter, and more organic. Untamed florals, candlelight, lace textures, pastel tones, handwritten stationery, weathered wood, and the natural woodland surroundings of The Woods Retreat Minnesota gave the editorial a more lived-in and emotional atmosphere rather than something overly formal.
Lace became one of the main visual elements throughout the editorial — layered into the tablescape, woven through details, echoed in the dress, and even reflected in the intricate texture of the cake itself. Everything felt soft, ornate, and slightly undone in the most beautiful way.

What I loved most was how every element complemented one another without competing for attention. The florals brought movement and abundance while still feeling organic, and the layered textures created depth in such a soft way. The entire shoot felt immersive — almost like still frames from a forgotten period film hidden deep in the French countryside.
As a photographer, these are always the kinds of stories I’m drawn to creating: imagery that feels emotional, cinematic, and deeply atmospheric. Not simply documenting beautiful details, but creating a world that people can emotionally step into.
So grateful to this incredibly talented team for bringing this vision to life.
